Virtue H: We Humbly ...

This week, we're embarking on an exciting journey with our children, exploring the virtue of humility, a core value that aligns with our faith and teachings from the Bible. As we delve into the world of biblical stories and lessons, our goal is to instill a deep sense of humility in our children, teaching them to humbly admit their mistakes, submit to correction, and accept discipline.

Monday: The Essence of Humility

Our adventure begins with understanding what humility truly means, especially in the context of our faith. We'll discuss how humility involves recognizing our own limitations and dependability on God, admitting when we're wrong, and being open to learning and growing from those experiences. Importantly, we'll explore the biblical definition of discipline, not as punishment, but as guidance and correction out of love, aimed at helping us grow closer to God and become better individuals.

Tuesday: Jonah

From the Old Testament, we'll share the tale of Jonah, a prophet who initially runs away from God's command and learns about humility and obedience through a series of extraordinary events, including being swallowed by a great fish. This story will help our children see the importance of listening to God's guidance, even when it's challenging.

Thursday: Peter

In the New Testament, we'll look at the life of Peter, a disciple of Jesus who experiences his own journey of humility. Through stories like denying Jesus three times and then being reinstated by Jesus, Peter learns the profound depth of humility and the strength it takes to admit one's faults and receive forgiveness.

Continuing the Conversation

1. Share Together

Share personal stories where you've had to practice humility, perhaps a time when you made a mistake and had to admit you were wrong. This not only reinforces the lesson but also shows your children that humility is a lifelong journey.

2. Reflect Together

Discuss the stories of Jonah and Peter at home. Ask your children what they think about the characters' actions and what they might have done differently. Encourage them to think about how they can apply the lessons of humility in their own lives.

3. Humility in Action

Practice humility together. Look for opportunities to demonstrate humility in everyday life, whether it's admitting a mistake, offering an apology, or accepting correction graciously.

4. Pray Together

Pray together for a humble heart. Include prayers that ask God to help your family recognize when you're wrong and to have the courage to admit it, learn from it, and grow.

Continue the Journey

By focusing on humility this week, we aim to cultivate hearts that are open to learning, growing, and being shaped by God's loving discipline. It's our hope that these lessons will not only resonate with our children during this week but will also be a foundation they carry with them throughout their lives.

Warmly,
Jonny & Danika Jordan

About Biblically Centered

We want to help equip your family with knowledge and conversations for you to live and defend your Christian faith.

In recent years, we kept seeing people with our same background walk away from Jesus. In order to prepare our children for the shifting world and culture, we knew we needed to solidify our children's biblical worldview so they will be prepared for the future.

We know it's important to show your children what it means to "live like Christ." We hope that you are inspired to do that with our Biblical Family Virtues.

We reside in Kansas with our 3 children (ages 7, 5, 3). We enjoy being outside and having occasional dance parties.

Blessings, Danika & Jonny Jordan
