Virtue P: We Practice with diligence

As parents, one of our greatest desires is to instill values in our children that will guide them through life with purpose and integrity. This coming week, we have a wonderful opportunity to focus on a virtue that is both ancient in wisdom and essential for today’s world—diligence. Through engaging stories from both the Old and New Testaments, along with discussions on utilizing gifts and talents with diligence and purpose, we will explore how this virtue can be applied in everyday life.

Monday: Virtue of the Week

We will begin our week by diving deep into the meaning of diligence. It's more than just hard work; it's about dedication, persistence, and the purposeful use of our talents. By sharing verses like Proverbs 12:24, "The hand of the diligent will rule, while the slothful will be put to forced labor," and Colossians 3:23, "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men," we aim to lay a foundational understanding of this virtue in a way that resonates with young hearts and minds.

Tuesday: Old Testament Insights

Our journey will take us back to the time when King Solomon embarked on a monumental task—building the temple of the Lord. This story, rich in details about collaboration, craftsmanship, and the dedication of many skilled workers, serves as a vivid example of diligence in action. It highlights how every person’s contribution, no matter how big or small, played a crucial part in accomplishing something extraordinary for God.

Thursday: New Testament Wisdom

As we move into the teachings of the New Testament, we will explore the diverse gifts of the Spirit as described by Paul in his letters to the Corinthians. Emphasizing that every gift is given for the common good, we will discuss how diligence in nurturing and using these gifts can lead to growth not just in ourselves, but also in our communities.

Continuing the Conversation

This week is not just about listening to stories; it's about bringing the virtue of diligence into our daily lives. We encourage you to keep the conversation going at home. Discuss the different talents and gifts each family member has and how they can be used diligently to serve others and honor God. Whether it’s through art, problem-solving, or offering a helping hand, every action done with purpose and dedication is a reflection of this timeless virtue.

As we navigate this week together, let’s remember that our children are watching us. By modeling diligence in our actions and encouraging it in theirs, we set them on a path to fulfilling their God-given potential. Let’s celebrate every effort, guide them through challenges, and remind them that, in everything they do, they have the opportunity to do it with all their heart, as for the Lord.

Here’s to a week filled with learning, growth, and the joyful discovery of how we can all use our gifts and talents with diligence and purpose. May these stories from the past inspire our children to build a future where diligence is not just practiced but cherished as a way to live a life of significance and service.

Warmly,
Jonny & Danika Jordan

About Biblically Centered

We want to help equip your family with knowledge and conversations for you to live and defend your Christian faith.

In recent years, we kept seeing people with our same background walk away from Jesus. In order to prepare our children for the shifting world and culture, we knew we needed to solidify our children's biblical worldview so they will be prepared for the future.

We know it's important to show your children what it means to "live like Christ." We hope that you are inspired to do that with our Biblical Family Virtues.

We reside in Kansas with our 3 children (ages 7, 5, 3). We enjoy being outside and having occasional dance parties.

Blessings, Danika & Jonny Jordan
