Virtue R: We Reflect Christ's Example

This week, our Biblically Centered Kids podcast will embark on a profound journey through the virtue of reflecting Christ’s love, as outlined in Virtue R. As parents, you play a crucial role in reinforcing these timeless lessons, helping your children not only understand but also live out biblical love in their daily lives. Here’s what to expect and some tips on how to keep the conversation going throughout the week.

Monday: Defining Love Through a Biblical Lens

We will kick off the week by exploring the biblical definition of love, which is quite distinct from the cultural interpretations today. Together with your kids, we will delve into what it means to love as Christ loves us—unconditionally and sacrificially. Expect to hear key Bible verses that highlight God's benevolent love, reminiscent of a father's affection for his children. This sets the foundational tone for understanding that true love is about more than feelings—it's about action.

Tuesday: Old Testament Insight

On the second day, we will present a child-friendly version of the story of Hosea and Gomer from the Old Testament. This story poignantly illustrates God's unwavering love for us, despite our flaws and failures. Hosea’s commitment to Gomer, despite her unfaithfulness, serves as a powerful example of God's infinite mercy and forgiveness.

Thursday: New Testament Action

Midweek, we will shift to the New Testament with the Parable of the Good Samaritan. This story teaches us about the kind of neighborly love Jesus expects from us—one that crosses societal boundaries and prejudices. The Samaritan’s actions exemplify how compassion should lead to hands-on assistance, not just sympathetic feelings.

Continuing the Conversation at Home

Throughout the week, I encourage you to engage in discussions with your children about what they've learned. Ask questions like:

"What does it mean to love someone the way God loves us?"
"How can we show love to someone who isn’t kind to us?"
"Can you think of a time when you helped someone, just like the Good Samaritan?"

Encourage your children to draw parallels between the stories they hear and their everyday interactions. Perhaps they can share about a time they showed love to a family member or a friend. This not only reinforces their understanding but also helps them apply biblical principles in real-life scenarios.

Creative and Practical Applications

To make these stories more relatable, consider creating daily practical challenges that reflect the love described in these biblical passages. For example, challenge your children to perform at least one act of kindness each day, whether it’s helping around the house without being asked or sharing with siblings.

Finally, cap off your week by participating in a family drawing session where everyone can illustrate their favorite part of the stories or virtues discussed. This not only fosters creativity but also helps children express their understanding in unique, colorful ways.

By the end of the week, the goal is for each child to not only grasp the concept of biblical love but also begin to live it out daily. Let's prepare to guide our children in reflecting Christ’s love, showing them that love is not just an emotion, but a deliberate choice and a series of actions that mirror the heart of God.

Warmly,
Jonny & Danika Jordan

About Biblically Centered

We want to help equip your family with knowledge and conversations for you to live and defend your Christian faith.

In recent years, we kept seeing people with our same background walk away from Jesus. In order to prepare our children for the shifting world and culture, we knew we needed to solidify our children's biblical worldview so they will be prepared for the future.

We know it's important to show your children what it means to "live like Christ." We hope that you are inspired to do that with our Biblical Family Virtues.

We reside in Kansas with our 3 children (ages 7, 5, 3). We enjoy being outside and having occasional dance parties.

Blessings, Danika & Jonny Jordan
