Virtue S: We Seize opportunities to serve...

This week on our podcast "Biblically Centered Kids," we delve deep into the heartwarming virtue of servanthood, exploring how we can seize opportunities to serve others and put their needs above our own. As we journey through this theme, we invite families to join us in discovering the joy and impact of living out this essential biblical principle.

Exploring Servanthood

We kick off the week by introducing the virtue of servanthood, explained through the biblical lens. Our discussion focuses on what it means to be a servant just as Jesus was—a person who helps and cares for others selflessly. We explore several key Bible verses that highlight the importance of servanthood, such as Mark 10:45, where Jesus explains, "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." This foundational concept sets the stage for the stories and lessons that follow throughout the week.

Learning from Esther and Dorcas

Midweek, our young listeners enjoy engaging retellings of the stories of Esther from the Old Testament and Dorcas from the New Testament. Esther's story is a powerful example of bravery and self-sacrifice. As queen, she puts her own life at risk to save her people, demonstrating that true leadership involves serving and protecting others. In a similar vein, we share the inspiring tale of Dorcas, a woman who exemplified servanthood by making clothes for the needy in her community. Her story doesn’t end with her death; through the miraculous power of prayer, Dorcas is brought back to life, continuing her mission of service and thus spreading the message of hope and charity.

Continuing the Conversation at Home

We encourage parents to keep the conversation about servanthood going throughout the week. Discuss with your children how they might be able to help others at school, at home, or in their community. Perhaps they can donate some of their old clothes or toys, help a sibling with homework, or assist in preparing a meal. Every act of service, no matter how small, is significant.

Reflections and Actions

This week's journey through biblical stories and virtues is more than just listening—it's about transforming these lessons into daily actions. By highlighting the examples of Esther and Dorcas, we aim to inspire both children and adults to adopt a mindset of servanthood, fostering a loving and caring atmosphere in every aspect of life.

We hope this week inspires your family to embrace the joy of serving others, reflecting the love and kindness that are at the core of our faith. Let's make servanthood a part of our daily lives, spreading love and compassion wherever we go.

Warmly,
Jonny & Danika Jordan

About Biblically Centered

We want to help equip your family with knowledge and conversations for you to live and defend your Christian faith.

In recent years, we kept seeing people with our same background walk away from Jesus. In order to prepare our children for the shifting world and culture, we knew we needed to solidify our children's biblical worldview so they will be prepared for the future.

We know it's important to show your children what it means to "live like Christ." We hope that you are inspired to do that with our Biblical Family Virtues.

We reside in Kansas with our 3 children (ages 7, 5, 3). We enjoy being outside and having occasional dance parties.

Blessings, Danika & Jonny Jordan
